In the summer, Gulmarg - also known as the "Meadow of Flowers" - is a colorful sea of flowers, while from December the city turns into a beautiful, snowy winter wonderland. But whether you are there in the summer or winter, that you will look your eyes out, is one thing that is certain. In this short travel guide I share the best tips and most beautiful sights of Gulmarg.
Sights
There is plenty to do in Gulmarg all year round. In the summer the city and its surroundings are full of
colored flowers, while in the winter everything is covered with a thick layer of snow. People mainly go to
Gulmarg to enjoy the breathtakingly beautiful nature, although you shouldn't miss these sights when you
are in Gulmarg.

Gulmarg Gondola
Of course you cannot leave Gulmarg without going up the mountain with the gondola. The Gulmarg
Gondola is the city's landmark and attracts countless tourists throughout the year. You can visit two phases
with the cable car: Phase I and Phase II. In the first phase there are also various activities to do in summer
and winter. From Phase II you can hike to the Alpather Lake in the summer and you have a magnificent
view of the Himalayas. Book your ride with taxi rental service in udaipur for trip in india.

Wintersport
Gulmarg is one of the few places in India where you can ski and snowboard. From December there is a
lot of snow and you can ski down a few hills, but for the real thing it is best to come between mid-January
and late February. Even when you can't ski or snowboard, there is still plenty to do in the winter, such as
sledging, on the back of the snowmobile, on the back of the quad and walking through the snowy forests.

Hiking
In the summer but also in the winter you can take beautiful walks in the city and the surrounding area.
When you have a little fitness, you can take a path next to the gondola and go hiking to Phase I. You then
walk through the pine forest and on the way you come across the most beautiful views. We did this in
December, when everything was full of snow, and we thought it was fantastic. In the summer, a walk
through The Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve seems to be highly recommended.

Sleeping and eating
We were in Gulmarg during Christmas and because it was very busy and many hotels were fully booked
months in advance, we had to stay in two different hotels. We first slept two nights at The Vintage and then
two nights at Hotel Heevan Retreat . The Vintage was very good in terms of hotel, but less in terms of
location and Heevan Retreat is less luxurious, but then again has a fantastic location. But with both hotels
you're in the right place anyway!

If you really want to spend the night in luxury, you should go to The Kyber Himalayan Resort & Spa - a
beautiful resort with a great location and incredibly good food. Also Hotel Highlands Park is recommended.
You don't have budget accommodation in Gulmarg, but if you don't want to spend too much, Pineview
Hotel , Green Park Gulmarg and Hotel Signature are the best options. Best taxi service in udaipur providing stay and food booking for your trip at best price must try.

In terms of restaurants, you should especially like the restaurants in hotels. If you want to eat really well
and luxuriously, the Khyber restaurant is a must. It is reasonably pricey, but really amazingly good. We
also ate great times at The Vintage. For fresh bean coffee you have to go to Black Bear Brew or Miasa
Cafe & Lounge.

Transport
If you want to go to Gulmarg, you first have to fly from Delhi (1.5 hours) or Mumbai (3 hours) to Srinagar.
From Srinagar it is another one and a half hour drive to Gulmarg. If you want to go to Gulmarg from
Pahalgam, it takes about 4 hours by car.

Gulmarg itself is just a small town, so everything in the city is within walking distance. If you want to visit
sights in the area, it is best to book a taxi for a whole or a half day. You can do this on the street, but you
can also have it arranged by your hotel.

Good to know
- You can ski and snowboard in Gulmarg, but it is not really comparable to winter sports in Europe.
- It is all arranged pretty messy and the slopes are not as good and slippery as in the European
- countries. So it is not really recommended for beginners. On the other hand, it is a whole lot cheaper
- than when you go on winter sports in Europe. Renting a full day of skis costs 300 rupees and for a
- snowboard you pay 500 rupees for a whole day.
- When you go to Gulmarg in the winter, you really need warm clothing. Once the sun is gone, it can
- get around -10 / -20 degrees and even with thermal underwear and double layers it gets very
- cold very quickly. When the sun shines during the day, it is not too bad with the cold.
Best time to visit Gulmarg: All year round.
